What?
This week, we are continuing to work on our Digital Stories. Though, we also learned about Photostory, along with few other options to create digital stories in. (iMovie, Windows Moviemaker.)
So What?
Digital Stories could be very beneficial. Also, know the software that is used to create them is a tool and skill that I feel everyone should have. Especially for myself as a future educator, and my colleagues. We are in a digital age, we must engage our students by teaching them in ways that will keep them engaged. Digital stories are a way to do this.
Now what?
For my students in the future, I plan to have them create digital stories. Whether is by about a composer that they have been learning about or the music they have been playing. I feel that it will give them a more in depth and better understanding of the music itself. They can also learn how to make digital stories to help them with other classes as well, not just music, which would in turn make them better educated and better students.
Video
Did you Know? 3.O
I enjoy these clips. They are very informational and opens your eyes to see just how much our world is growing in the digital age! There was one clip on the video that surprised me. It stated that the number of text messages received and sent everyday exceed the population of our planet..... now that is just crazy! That is just one small testament to how much we are growing digitally. Could you imagine what it will be like in another 10 years?

Digital Stories 1
What?
We have started to learn about digital stories. Digital stories are a great way to grab a students attention to learn about a particular topic. They should be engaging and be able to pull the students in from the get go.
So what?
This is a pretty cool way to grab the students attention. If done right. It's also a great way to put all the tools that you have learned into practice. To be able to digitally tell a story, just by using pictures alone and the way that you use them with music, could leave a very big impression on your audience. Especially the teenagers in your classroom.
Now what?
As a music teacher, I feel that this could be used very beneficially. Take a piece of music that we are learning. Let's say a John Williams piece that was used in a historical movie.... I can create digital story using they music that we are learning to get across to the students, just exactly what the composer wants to bring to pass through his music. By doing this, I can impress into my students minds what they need to convey.
I feel that this could help them become better musicians, as well as better people in general. Which I feel is our objective as educators. We have the responsibility as educators to make good citizens of our students. Digital stories can help us do that.

NASA Digital Story
This was a very insightful digital story. I knew quite a bit about NASA, though this story opened up my mind to a few things that I didn't know. I also felt that this digital story was a good example on how to keeps things flowing throughout your presentation and using music to make an impression. Digital stories could be very insightful, just as this one, if used correctly.

Powerpoint
What?
At the moment, we are learning how to create an instructive process for a powerpoint presentation. To complete this assignment, we are collaborating in our content area groups to pull in ideas from our entire group.
So what?
As an educator, if I can learn how to make solid instructions to help guide my students, then my students will come away knowing what to do. the worst is when a student is confused, because you as an educator was confusing when you gave them the instructions. By learning how to create instructions that are organized and clear, you will be a benefit to your students so that your students can be become more effective learners. Also, as far as my colleagues are concerned, by being a more organized educators, I will be a more effective educator for the department that I am in and for my school.
Now What?
Powerpoints are very beneficial in education. It helps visualize what they are learning. It also helps them learn digitally. By creating and making powerpoints, the students stay engaged with the lesson and retain the information, more so than they would if they were just listening to the teacher talk all day long.
Video Reflection
How NOT to use Powerpoint
This was a humorous, but yet very insightful video on how not to make a powerpoint presentation. When you are making a powerpoint, remember that you want people to remember what you are presenting. You don't want them to leave thinking about how confusing the presentation was. Because that is all they will get from it. Though, if your slides are simple and informative, than your audience will remember what they learned and walk away thinking about how great your presentation was.
