Podcast, Vidcast.........

What?
This week we are learning about Podcast & Vidcasts, & how to make and apply them.

So what?
I knew what podcast & vidcasts were before this week, but I didn't really know how easy they were to make! I feel that as teachers, we can use these tools very effectively in education. We can create podcast of our lessons and put them up on a site for students if they miss class, or even just to their benefit for study purposes. If you want the class to hear specific instructions on a particular assignment or walk them through how to workout a problem, make a podcast on put it on your site. Also, I feel that as a music educator, vidcasts could come in very handy. I can make a vidcast on demonstrating how to properly clean your instrument, or how to just do basic maintenance. This way, when students are at home, they can watch them and learn how to do basic maintenance on their own instruments and save them some money.
As a student now, I could make podcast of classes that I am in if I want to re-listen to a lesson later on while I am studying. Or even just to make myself notes or leave myself voice memos. Again, very effective tools if learned how to use properly.

Now what?
For my future students, I feel that this technology can benefit them greatly, when used properly. Other than the things I have already mentioned, I feel that I can use this technology to record rehearsals if needed so that students can go home & listen to these rehearsals to see where they need improvement & then the ensemble can benefit as a whole. Also, my future colleagues and I can also use this technology to share information when we go to seminars and possibly attend different classes. Then we can share information and get more out of the classes we attended.

Video Reflection
Why Let Our Students Blog?
Educators need to realize that our students our digital learners. By letting our students blog, we are allowing them to work in their digital realm. It well help our students remain engaged and help them reflect on what they learned that day. By actually having our students do something, versus hoping that they reflect on the assignment sometime after they leave your classroom is a benefit to our students. BY blogging, they will actually jog their memory and reflect on the class that they had this day. This will help them long-term, Hopefully, help them realize that by reflecting on their daily classes, will help them retain information & hopefully become better students. It also gives them a sense of ownership & control. Since they are the ones that have access to their blogs & control what goes into them.

Webquest Final

Video Reflection
Schoolhouse Rock - A Noun is a Person, Place, or Thing.

I found it interesting that this video was about nouns. Especially when we have been working on Webquests that past couple of weeks. Though, when I stop and think about it, many people think of nouns to describe a person, place, or a thing. Though, you can also call an abstract idea a noun. More importantly, as an educator, I feel that nouns are very important in the way that you present content to you students. As you teach them, you want to find the correct words or nouns to be able to give solid examples to your students so that they can comprehend what they are learning in the best possible way. Also, as we as educators create webquests for our students, which tupe of nouns will we use to make this content interesting for our students? Are there certain nouns out there that may grab a students attention vs another? We must be good with our word as educators. We must also know how to use them. My father always told me, that a well educated person knows how and when to use certain words in the English Language.

Webquest 2

What?
This week, have still been learning about the Webquest. What caught my attention is that we went over a little bit more about hyperlinking. I feel that the hyperlink option is a very beneficial and necessary tool when working to create webquest.

So What?
I still feel that webquest are very beneficial to educators. I was thinking about it, and it is a very good way to create your own virtual field trip for your students. Also, to teach them about specific things that you want them to research on their own interactively. Educators in the arts can use this tool to help students understand specific elements in their fields. Whether it be music, drama, art, etc. By doing this, we as educators can help our students become interactive learners and keep them interested in what they are learning.

Now What?
For future students, webquests will be very beneficial to their education. In this time and age, our children have become digital learners. They tend to be interactive with technology. The best way that I feel to reach out to these students is to meet them on their level. This is digitally, if we as teachers learn how to do this, and how to do it effectively. It is my opinion that our students will be more interested in what they are learning. You can keep them interested, when otherwise they wouldn't. We are no longer in the age of everyone just sitting at their desk and listening to the teacher give a lecture, and then occasionally write something up on the black board. In many places today, their are schools that I computers just about in every classroom. Much like the highs school that I attended. The school that I graduated was named, Roy Miller High School, Center for Communications, Technology, and for the Performing Arts. Much of our curriculum was technologically based. We had digital learning labs on campus, and many assignments were done on computers. If I graduated in 2000, I am curious to see how they are doing things now. Again, if our students are digital learners, we must meet them there and teach them they way that they learn. This will make an effective educator.

Video Reflection
Idea Ad, "Education for all."
This video brought up a couple of thoughts in my mind. One of these was, education is for everyone one. Not just the wealthy or the middle class, of for people who just happen to live in prosperous countries. It is for everyone. Though, it is sad that there are places where education is not the greatest. I Feel though that through technology and the way it is now, and the way that it will be in the future, it could be very possible for a good education to reach to children in all the most obscure places in the world. Because, they deserve it just as much as anyone here in the United States does.
