What?
At the moment, we are learning about UEN, and all the awesomeness that it brings to the table! This week, we are just learning our way around the UEN site in anticipation of learning more about it this week.
So What?
I feel that this technology means a great deal to me as a future teacher. It brings so many tools, valuable tools that I can use to the benefit of my students and myself. Not to mention the parents. By this site allowing me to have a public page, I can post announcements, educational links, contact info, calenders, etc. All with the security of confidence of having this associated with the Utah Education Network. It covers my tail in a way, that having a web page not associated with the Utah Educational Network would not.
Now What?
Before this class, I didn't that all this was available at my disposal! Not that I do, I plan to use it and incorporate it into my curriculum the best that I could. I gives that connection, in a safe secure what the students and many parents need or want. It can keep my students up to date on what is going on in the classroom. Especially if someone is absent or out on a field trip etc. It has many wonderful benefits that any teacher should find helpful.
Video Reflection
Did You Know?
I found a great deal of truth in this video. For those who's eyes have not yet been opened to technology, it could be a real eye opener. But, the clip is very true! We now live in the 21st century. How many of us our literate in the technology that this century brings to the table? The young people in this country amaze me at with their technological skills! I feel that I am pretty with technology, but I know many young people who are so much better than I am. It makes me think, does our curriculum in education provide the opportunity for our young people to become more advanced in the technology to meet our society's needs? Our society is asking a great deal, will the students we educate meet that need? For this very reason, I feel that it is very important that as educators, we continue to learn and refine our technological skills to be able to educate our students.

What?
This week we have been learning about google sites and how to create them. At the moment, our assignment is to create a google site geared towards our students and possible their parents.
So what?
Well, for one..... learning how to create a website is very useful to me. For one, as a teacher, I could create a website for my classes in the future. Which could come in very handy with music. Any student or parent could look to the website for a number of things like: The Band Handbook, Concert Dates, Competition Dates, Homework, Important Announcements, etc.
I feel that this is an important tool for myself to learn, as well as my colleagues. As we refer to the video that was assigned for this week, our students are digital learners. Just about every student has access to a computer where they check email, etc. If you put this website at their finger tips, they can look to it for any information that they need.
Now what?
This technology, I feel that it means a great deal to my future students. If I continue to learn about technology, I can be a better educator for my students. Though I feel that it is not enough to just learn about it, I must learn how to implement it into my classroom for it to be effective. I feel that you need to meet your students half way and show them that you care about them. You don't want to put them to sleep with aged teaching methods, you want to get them engaged in the lesson and wanting to come back for more.
Video Reflection:
Pay Attention
This video gave me some insight as to why, we take an Instructional Media class as part of our training to become educators. The world is and has been evolving into a more technologically based society. Think about it, technology is all around us! If you notice, children these days are much more advanced technologically than many adults. Kids, are teaching their parents how to use computers. The quote in the video said, "These teens were born into a digital world where they expect to be able to create, consume, remix, and share material with each other." It's not just that this is what they want, it is also what our society wants. In our time and age, to be able to get a good job and provide for one's self and their family, many jobs require that you have some type of technological knowledge. If this is what is expected of our students, then why not teach our students in a technological manner? Our students are said to be digital learners, if this is so, then we need to become digital educators. Engage the students and get them excited to wake up for school and learn. Let's teach them tools that they will be able to use in their lives, not just to graduate from high school. Yes, I believe that books are important, but so is technology. You can still teach the students that books and reading them are just as important as technology, integrate them and educate them. Educate the students to become successful in all aspects of their lives.

What?
At the current time, I am learning how to incorporate technology into my professional life as a teacher. At the moment focusing on google and all that it has to offer. As far as assignment, I am working with the other members of my group, to create a welcome letter to incoming students and creating a list of classroom rules.
So What?
By learning everything I can about technology, it will only benefit me as an educator. We live in a world that is progressing very fast technologically. Primarily with the Internet. For example, with google, you can create websites, create a calender, blogs, and the list goes on and on. Together with my colleagues, we can share professional calenders, plan meetings, create documents via google docs. This will allow us to work more proficiently as colleagues in the workplace.
I love learning more about this topic. Personally, I know quite a bit about computers, though you are always learning. As far as google goes, I have been in the process of learning more about it. When we had class on "Everything Google" I learned so much more! This is going to help me greatly. Especially the calender, I can set reminders to text my or email me, I can share the calender with my wife or whomever I choose. It is helping to keep me better organized. As I continue to better organize myself, I feel that it will help make me more of an effective educator, as well as keep my personal life organized.
Now What?
I feel that this technology can only benefit my future students. If they use it wisely. They can use this technology to help them keep themselves organized and be able to get their assignments turned in on time. In the classroom, as a music educator, there are music notation programs that I can use for the benefit of my students learning. By using these programs, I can create examples, teach them basic music theory and hand out assignments on these programs that they can do for homework. Also, in the music genre, there is also a program called Smart Music. I have used this as a student and I loved it! I plan to incorporate this in my class. With this program, I can record private lessons, rehearsals, etc. And then email them to my students. They can do the same in their private practice and email them to me. This way, students and teacher alike can analyze the performance or practice session and see where improvement is needed.
I feel that this will me as an educator, especially with the students. Students are going to be very tech savvy in my opinion, if I keep up with technology, I will be able to keep up with them and use technology to our advantage in the education system.
Video Reflection
I am what I learn
The message of this video is very true. You make yourself what you want. If you are stuck in a bad situation, ultimately, you are the one who will make something of yourself if you really want it. Don't ever give up. You may not be in you ideal situation at the moment, but if you keep your goals and your head on straight, you can do whatever you put your mind to. It is true that some people may be put in a better situation to begin with. For example, born to a wealthy family, went to all the good schools, lived in all the best neighborhoods, etc. Who cares. You may come from a rougher neighborhood, come from a family who works very hard to put food on the table, etc. Keep you head in the books, it doesn't need to be your life. At times in our lives, we may be thrown into a tough situations, when this happens, keep your head up! Don't give up! Stay focused on your goals and you can do anything you set your mind on.
*I realize this blog is late. No excuses & I realize that I will not receive any points for a late blog. It will not happen again, I still just wanted to get the blog done.

Ideal Classroom Reflection
Ideally, I would be a music teacher. A band director to be exact. It is my belief that music helps and feeds the soul of anyone who will allow it. Through music, you learn a great deal about different cultures and time periods. It is full of history and emotion. My goal is to help others. Help my students realize that music is more than just something that you hear on the radio. It isn't just "noise," it is music. I want to help my students and their parents realize that music encompasses everything that we know in life. Life, death, birth, joy, fear, excitement, depression, patriotism, religion, culture, war, peace. The list goes on and on. Ideally, I would love to teach in a culture rich area. I would really love to go to an inner city school if at all possible. Kids that may come from a rougher neighborhood. Many kids that come from rougher neighborhoods, when people believe in them I feel can do amazing things. When these kids realize that they are capable of doing any thing they set their minds to become strong, educated members of our society. Ideally, the parents of my students will love and care for their children, support them in whatever educational goals they may have. If the parent believe, if my colleagues believe, if I believe, this students has nowhere to go but up. My colleagues would care about their students, and they would care about them a great deal. They would believe in them and help them realize their goals. As far as techniques, with music, I feel that a great way to teach is through modeling. As I teach my students, I will also show them first hand how to play their instruments. Model what I want by either singing the melody, or even playing them an example with my trumpet or on the piano. The training that I have received musically, will help me train and teach my students. I am also a big believer in collaborative learning. My students will help teach their classmates. Everyone has something different to contribute. Everyone is at a different level of musicianship, and everyone always has something to learn from another. Together, we will learn and teach eachother. Technology will also play a great part in my classroom. The most obvious would be a good sound system. As we are learning new pieces, I will play for them the selection of a University or Professional group playing the same piece so that they have an idea of what it sounds like. Also, music notation software such as Finale and Sibelius, along with a projector to help teach the students basic music theory and help them understand the basic structure of music. Most importantly though, I will continue to educate myself to be become a better educator. The more I know about my craft, the better I will be to be able to help the ones that matter most, the students. If we as educators believe, if I believe, our students can, and will succeed in life.
Video Reflection
Wow. This truly must be one of the most inspirational clips I have seen in a while. Do I believe? Do we as future educators believe? What this young man said is true. As educators, we must believe in our students. No matter where they come from, no matter their culture, economic status, etc. It doesn't matter, as an educator you must believe in your students. You must believe that they can accomplish anything, and I mean anything that they want to do in life. I feel it very strongly that as educators, you do not give up. Not on anyone. If you believe in them, you believe in them full heartedly, you believe in them with all you have. You must be an influence in that students life, a good influence. Growing up where I did, there were many classmates that came from broken homes, or classmates that just needed a friend or someone to talk to. As a teacher, become that example, become that friend, and become that person that the students can talk to and trust. The better you know your students, the better educator you will become, because you will know better how to help them. Though, the biggest thing is to believe. If you believe, anything is possible.
